When the idea for Embodi first started taking shape, it didn't come from a boardroom or a desire to build just another workout tracker. It came from watching people I care about try to navigate the fitness system and seeing where that system was fundamentally broken.
A System That Was Falling Short
Scotland's GP referral program is built on a fantastic premise: treating exercise as medicine. When a doctor refers a patient to a gym to improve their health, manage a condition, or aid in recovery, it is supposed to be the first step in a life-changing journey. But all too often, I noticed that the reality fell drastically short of the promise.
People in my life were being referred, walked through the gym doors, and suddenly hit a wall. People were exercising to improve specific health markers, yet they had no accessible way to track their progress, celebrate their wins, or see if their efforts were actually working. If they had a question about a movement, felt pain, or just needed a word of encouragement, there was no obvious channel to speak to a trainer outside of a scheduled, paid hour.
It was a frustrating cycle to witness. People who needed guidance the most were being handed a gym pass and left to manage the best they could. It isn't necessarily the fault of the trainers, but a failure with the tools available to them.
Enter Embodi
I realised we needed a platform that worked for both sides of the equation. Something that empowered clients to take charge of their health while giving trainers the tools to offer scalable, meaningful support.
Embodi changes the overall gym experience and enhances the standard PT-client relationship by keeping the lines of communication open. Clients no longer have to wait until their next paid session to ask a question, ensuring they feel supported and confident every time they step onto the gym floor. By logging workouts and tracking specific metrics, clients can actually see their journey unfold. This isn't just about weight; it's about seeing tangible improvements in health, mobility, and strength over time.
For PTs, Embodi's dashboard changes the game. It allows trainers to monitor their referral clients' progress remotely, step in with advice when needed, and provide a high level of care without having to be physically present for every single rep.
We started Embodi because we believe that when healthcare professionals prescribe exercise, the fitness industry needs to be ready to catch those patients and guide them properly. Embodi is our way of making sure nobody falls through the cracks.
